Mason City globe Gazette, IA 11-03-06 Floyd County Extension director takes specialist job CHARLES CITY — Brenda Schmitt, director of Iowa State University Extension in Floyd County, has accepted a position as ISU Extension Resource Management Specialist. She began her new position Nov. 1 at the ISU Extension Cerro Gordo County office in Mason City. She will serve 10 Northeast Iowa counties: Black Hawk, Butler, Cerro Gordo, Floyd, Franklin, Grundy, Hancock, Mitchell, Winnebago and Worth. In her new role, Schmitt will work with counties to provide resource management information and education. “I’m excited about the opportunities,” she said, in a prepared statement. “There is tremendous need for resource management information and education.” The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program; First-Time Homebuyer Program; Money Craze, for teenagers; poverty simulations and financial counseling are among the programs she hopes to implement throughout the region. A 1980 graduate of the College of Design at Iowa State University, Schmitt received her master’s degree in Family and Consumer Science at Iowa State University in 2005. She had served as Extension director in Floyd County for six years. She and her husband, Norman, are the parents of three children: Renee, of Boise, Idaho; Katie, a student at Iowa State University; and Greg, a student at North Iowa Area Community College. The couple resides in Rudd.
