Explore what led to the radicalization of Cuba’s government and why it has welcomed normalization with the U.S. after decades of Cold War animosity. With two experienced UWSP faculty leaders and dozens of Cuban experts on the ground, visit many of Cuba’s most beautiful and iconic sights – from urban farms to tobacco plantations, underground bunkers to fine arts museums, modern harbors to United Nations biosphere reserves, and glittering Varadero Beach – once and future jewel of the Caribbean – to the Bay of Pigs, where a failed U.S.-backed invasion took place in 1961. Students can arrange for the latter course to count for GEP: IS (Interdisciplinary Studies) and/or XL (Experiential Learning). *Participant must be at least at sophomore status for GEP: IS to apply. Program Includes All lodging, a supplemental meal allowance, six credits of Wisconsin resident undergraduate tuition, UW System mandated health insurance, tours, and lectures. (Minnesota Residents surcharge with approved reciprocity; nonresidents: $250 surcharge). Airfare to Florida is not included. Consult with the study abroad staff on planning your flight arrangements.
