Although I will try to maintain the class schedule and objectives, I may need to make adjustments. 2. You are expected to read the assigned chapters before coming to class so you are prepared to participate in class discussion and other learning activities. Academic Integrity-Please see the student handbook and syllabus. Although I do not expect cheating or plagiarism in my class, the penalty is an F for the course. Plagiarism-Please see the UNCG website. You must properly document all sources used both in bibliographic format and through proper citation within the text itself. Failure to provide proper citations with the text of any assignment that you submit is plagiarism and will be reported to the Office of Student Conduct for appropriate action, including suspension or expulsion from the university. Any instance of plagiarism will receive a zero. This DOES NOT just apply to papers or the feasibility plan. It also means that you need to identify where the data was obtained when it is presented. If you are unsure about something, please call me. UNCG has a subscription to plagiarism prevention software that I use along with my own evaluation of each document. Please see the University’s Academic Integrity Policies for further information. 3. Assignments-Each assignment should be on a separate page with the team members’ names clearly displayed on the page, the name of the company and course number (ENT 300). All assignments must be in 12 point font, Times-Roman, one-inch margins, single spaced, and number the pages. When homework is due either you if it is an individual assignment or one person in the group if it is a group assignment must load the copy in Blackboard and transfer your files as a Word attachment. Please put in the Group File Exchange. We need to work from one draft at a time so it is very important only one person submits the draft for the group. Come prepared to discuss the answers to all assignments in class-each student download a hard copy of your assignment(s) and bring it with you to class so you are able to discuss. I will have your team feasibility report assignments back to you in the Group File Exchange no later than one hour before class. Late assignments are very rare and will lose 25% of the points for each day they are late. 4. Teamwork-Every team member must participate in doing the homework, cases, and feasibility study. If there are any problems in this regard, you or your team must see me immediately when the problem first arises so that it can be resolved. Individual Responsibility: You are expected to come to class with the knowledge and comprehension of the material in the chapter. If you do not, you will not be able to contribute to your team’s efforts, resulting in a personal deduction of points from the points your team earned (see Peer Evaluation). The team will not be penalized except that you will not have contributed to their success. Team Responsibility: You are expected to apply your knowledge of the chapter concepts to the development of your team’s Feasibility Analysis Report and Presentation. In order to do so, you must work together to analyze (break down into parts) the problem, synthesize (bring together) your knowledge and evaluate (make judgments based on criteria) your work. 5. Very Important: I base my exams on my objectives. If you and your team can master my objectives, you will do well. Be sure and read the objectives for each chapter that is included with your text resources. 6. Participation-it is of vital importance to your and your classmates learning that you ask questions, reveal facts, and challenge presented material. This includes participation in activities and exercises, professionalism, and contributions to discussions. Please refrain from any unprofessional language or behavior. 7. Peer Evaluation-Your Peer Evaluation percentages will determine the percentage of the team’s Feasibility Report and Presentation points that will be awarded to you. This is calculated by adding the percentages and dividing by the number of team members. The goal is that everyone gets 100% of the points earned. Typically, if your peers rate your contributions at less than 90% of the available peer points, you will lose so many points that your final grade is lowered. To ensure that this does not happen, read the chapters before class, be professional, and comply with the team’s contract. 8. Attendance- is important so points are earned for attendance. If you do have to miss a part of a class, find out as well as you can what you missed. I suggest you get notes from a classmate as we will cover information in class that you will not find in your book. Attendance will be taken to insure correct attendance points. You must be in class the entire time from start to finish earning attendance points. If you are not in class, for whatever reason, you cannot earn attendance points. Professor Points-Students who do not miss class for any reason (regardless of whether the absence is excused or unexcused) will be rewarded with points, either one or two points per class period depending on quality and quantity of participation. To be eligible, you must be in class at the time attendance is taken, you will not be able to be added later and get the bonus points. You must be in attendance each class period, and must also take each exam on the scheduled exam date to be eligible. You must arrive on time and stay till the class is dismissed. You must participate actively in class and read the assignments noted from your intelligent questions. 9. Tardiness: Please arrive on time and stay for the entire class as it is disruptive to the rest of the students. If you are later than five minutes after the start, please sit in the back of the room until an in-class exercise. Then you can join your group. Entering the room disturbs my concentration (don’t smile as this will probably happen to you as you get older). 10. Cell Phones, Pagers, Laptop Computers, and PDAs-These and other types of electronic equipment are disruptive and distracting to others. Please turn off and securely pack away all of this equipment if you must bring it to the classroom. On work days during class you can use your laptops for work on your feasibility plan (not email, etc.). If you have a compelling reason for using these types of equipment during class, please see me outside of class prior to use. Any electronic equipment must be left with me at the front of the room if it is brought into an exam to be picked up following completion of the exam. The use of any device during an exam will be interpreted as an Academic Integrity violation. 11. Students with Disabilities-If a student has special needs because of any disability, I will be happy to work with you to make reasonable accommodations. Our university has an office of Disabilities that will help you. Once I receive documentation from the office, we can meet to discuss what can be done to accommodate your special needs. This will be kept in the strictest confidence. Exams-In fairness to the rest of the students, no make-up exams are given without a written medical excuse. In fairness to the rest of the students, the make-up exams will be considerably more difficult than the exam given in class. All exams will be noncumulative. They will consist of True-False and Multiple Choice questions. All material in your textbook may be included in the exams as well as information given by films, cases, handouts, guest speakers and class lectures. Grades-No incompletes will be given at the end of the semester for the purpose of improving a grade. I do not give additional projects to increase your grade before or after the final exam 14. Paper and Presentation Grading Guidelines“A” The student’s work is unusually excellent and superior to the work of others. In addition to meeting all requirements for the assignment, the work contains innovative and creative ideas not found in other students’ papers or presentations. The work demonstrates that the student has done extensive research, included numerous concepts from the text or course, and has invested a tremendous amount of time and effort into the work. There are no structural or grammar errors, the paper reads very smoothly, or the presentation skills are exemplary. “B” The work is very good. In addition to meeting all requirements for the assignment, the work contains well thought out ideas and the student has applied many concepts from the text or course. The work clearly demonstrates the student has done obvious research and has invested significant thought and effort in the paper. The content is nicely structured and grammatically well done, or the presentation skills are very good. “C” The work is good. It meets all the requirements for the assignment and has applied a few concepts from the text and course. The student has probably done basic research even though it is not very obvious. There appears to be a minimum of effort extended to produce the work. The work may have some structural and grammar problems but it is still possible to follow the content without difficulty. The presentation skills are adequate in that the listener is not distracted from the content. “D” The work is below expectations. While it may or may not meet all the basic requirements for the assignment, there is no obvious evidence of any research or effort. Concepts from the text or course are either not obvious or are used incorrectly. Grammar mistakes are so prevalent that it is difficult to follow the content. Presentation skills are so poor that the listener cannot follow the content. “F” The work does not meet the basic requirements for the assignment, was not presented, or was not turned in at all. DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENTS Syllabus Part II ENT 300 Dr. Dianne Welsh Basic Instructions for All Assignments1.In blackboard, go to groups. Your company name is your group name. All of you have been enrolled in the group and me. If you open Groups, you will see at the bottom of the screen 1. group file exchange (where you put a copy of the assignment) 2. discussion board 3. email 4. vitual classroom 2. Assignment group file exhange-go under assignment that is due. You attach the word file where it says “attach local files” then hit submit.
