During Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), the
Department of Defense’s use of commercial satellite communications rose to 96%
of the total satellite communications in theater while MILSATCOM was only
providing 4% of the total.
J.J. Shaw will discuss:
• Recent U.S. and Worldwide Governments’ satellite communications trends
• Reasons for governments’ growing dependence on commercial satellite communications
• How the industry is moving to make commercial satellite communications more
protected, resilient and robust.

“J.J.” Shaw conducts product and service development for
Inmarsat Government. As a Naval Officer, he served aboard
USS Ranger (CV-61) and USS Enterprise (CVN-65) aircraft
carriers; USS Iwo Jima (LPH-2), USS Mount Whitney (LCC20) and USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19) amphibious command and
control ships. He was the Branch Head, Satellite and Tactical
Communications on the Navy Staff before retiring in 2004
