GUILFORD COUNTY SCHOOLS
Personalized Learning Environment Facilitator (2013- ) Work with district and school leaders to
develop, launch, and manage $30 million Race to the Top initiative to personalize learning in Guilford
County Middle schools. Coach and support teachers in personalizing learning in their environments.
Lateral Entry Teacher (2008-2013). Erwin Montessori Elementary (2010-2013). Brown Summit
Middle (2008-2010). Raised money to purchase student laptops, Kindle e-reader devices, e-books,
software, standing tables, and other tools that enable personalized learning and independent
accountability. Used Moodle and other technologies to deliver instruction. Developed and used
student performance monitoring software to allow for data-driven and differentiated learning.
Developed and used innovative word study instruction and assessment system to implement
research-based series Words Their Way. Developed and used student assessment information
system to provide school-wide, single-source student-data solution. Obtained commercial driver’s
license to facilitate increased field learning for students. Left to join personalized learning initiative.
2009 Rookie Teacher of the Year District Finalist (and sole middle school finalist). 2009 Magnet
Schools of America Presenter on Differentiation and Technology. Served on School Leadership
Team (Chairperson 2008/09, Secretary 2009/10).
Hearing Officer (June-August 2009). Temporary position during summer break while GCS searched
for a permanent hire. Coordinated parents and GCS Board Members to hear student re-assignment
appeals. Facilitated closed board sessions related to re-assignment appeals. Developed a reporting
and communication database system to manage appeals that is still in use.

WAZO, LLC Founder and President
Lead technology and management consulting company that has designed, developed, maintained
and supported a variety of Internet-based software used by professionals across the United States.
Industries served include hedge fund portfolio management, construction project management,
athletic coaching, and education. In particular, our educational software enables differentiated
literacy instruction, targeted teacher observation, and data-driven decision making at the classroom,
school and district levels for more than 10,000 users.
Project management responsibilities include coordinating team members, vendors, and client
representatives from disparate geographies in virtual and face-to-face teams that understand and
meet client requirements as well as support end-users. Day-to-day maintenance and support are
currently managed by other members of the company, including members insourced to clients.
2001–2006 BROOKS, PIERCE, MCLENDON, HUMPHREY & LEONARD, LLP Education Attorney
Served in a part-time, non-partnership-seeking role under Jill Wilson as Assistant School Board
Attorney for the Guilford County and Rockingham County Boards of Education. Also served other
business, educational, and non-profit clients. Activities included performing legal research,
developing legal briefs for client education and litigation, taking primary responsibility for monitoring
and enforcing the collection of fines and forfeitures accruing to client Boards of Education, writing and
reviewing contracts, attending and offering advice at board of education meetings, and performing
other legal services as needed. Left to move closer to the front lines of education.

Teach Management 330 (“The Legal Environment of Business”), an online undergraduate course
exploring a wide variety of legal topics that prepare future business leaders to navigate the legal
landscape of their competitive marketplaces.
2000–
NEXUS INITIATIVES, INC Founder and President
Founded religious non-profit that serves as an umbrella for Christian initiatives. Current initiatives
include Nexus Technology (a ministry that helps non-profits and schools use technology to more
effectively pursue their missions) and Nexus Journey (a ministry of retreat).
At its outset, Nexus Technology recycled business computers and placed them – along with Internet
access, research-based educational software, and care-provider training – into all Head Start, some
Early Head Start, and several home-based child care classrooms in Guilford County. It has also
assisted organizations such as Greensboro Urban Ministry, Housing Greensboro, the North Carolina
Head Start Association, and the North Carolina Presbyterian Pilgrimage with the development of
data-, content-, communication- and project-management systems.
Nexus Journey has facilitated more than 20 retreats since 2003 focused on prayer, connectedness,
and the pursuit of Christian call. Nexus Initiatives continues to operate as an all-volunteer
organization.
1995–1997 UPLIFT, INC Family Advocate, Project Coordinator
Performed multiple assignments focused on empowering low-resource families with young children.
Founded, raised funds for, and led Family Literacy Project in Ray Warren Public Housing
Community. Established a computer lab in the same community. Left to attend graduate school.
