DOUG YOUNG Doug Young, District Policy Director for Colorado Congressman Mark Udall, primarily works on environmental and natural resources issues in the Congressman's district office in Westminster. He has been with Congressman Udall since 1999. At this office, he has worked on issues related to Rocky Flats, wilderness legislation, forest fire policies on federal public lands, mine waste cleanup, R.S. 2477 rights-of-way, transportation issues, and open space preservation. He also recently completed work developing protections and management of Forest Service roadless areas as a member of the Colorado Roadless Area Review Task Force. Before working for Congressman Udall, Doug was Director of Environmental Policy for Colorado Governor Roy Romer (1992-1998). At this position, he worked on Rocky Flats, the cleanup of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal, the negotiations over the Animas-La Plata water project, reform of federal grazing policies, numerous state environmental legislative issues, and various Superfund, clean air and open space issues. Before working for Governor Romer, he was an environmental policy advisor to U.S. Senator Tim Wirth. Doug is a graduate of the University of Colorado (degree in Political Science) and the University of Colorado School of Law. During law school, he was a Law Clerk at the United States Attorney's Office in Colorado. Doug is also the film critic for The Colorado Statesman newspaper.
