FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THEATRE TUSCALOOSA ANNOUNCES UPDATED AUDITIONS FOR THE PRODUCERS
TUSCALOOSA, AL – Theatre Tuscaloosa will hold open auditions for its upcoming production of The Producers Saturday,
April 9, and Sunday, April 10, at 2:00 p.m. in the Wilson Carr Rehearsal Hall, just off the lobby of the Bean-Brown Theatre
on the Martin Campus of Shelton State Community College (9500 Old Greensboro Rd).
This record-breaking winner of twelve Tony Awards is the story of down-on-his-luck Broadway producer Max Bialystock
and his mousy accountant, Leo Bloom. Together, this mismatched team sets out to cheat their investors – every little old
lady in New York – by producing “Springtime for Hitler,” the biggest flop in Broadway history! Adapted from Mel Brooks'
cult classic film, The Producers takes no prisoners in this zany musical comedy.
The Producers has roles available for both men and women between the ages of 20 and 60. This includes six lead roles
and roughly thirty ensemble members. Tap dancers are especially needed with roles for approximately 6-10 female
tappers and a few male tappers.
Those who audition should be prepared to 1) sing 16 bars of a song in the style of the show and bring sheet music of the
entire song clearly marking the appropriate places to start and stop (an accompanist will be provided); 2) participate in
cold readings from the script; and 3) bring appropriate shoes and attire for the dance portion of the audition. Those who
have tap shoes should bring them. All who audition must bring their calendars and list all conflicts regarding the
rehearsal schedule on their audition sheets.
Scripts of The Producers are available to read in the Theatre Tuscaloosa Ticket Office in advance (recommended);
however, scripts may not leave the premises. The Ticket Office is open Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and
Fridays 9:00 a.m.-noon.
Rehearsals will begin May 23, 2016. Rehearsals are generally Monday through Friday evenings and some Sunday
afternoons. There will not be rehearsals most Saturdays. The final rehearsal schedule will be published after casting.
The Producers will be presented July 15-24 in the Bean-Brown Theatre on the Martin Campus of Shelton State
Community College. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday, July 16. Matinee performances
will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sundays, Wednesday, July 20, and Saturday, July 23. A pay-what-you-can dress rehearsal will be
presented on Thursday, July 14, at 7:30 p.m., a portion of proceeds benefiting the Charlie Dennis Memorial Scholarship
Fund.
