Cell Biology Date: 2012 Content: heredity and traits Essential Questions/Learning Targets: Students will understand where they get blue or brown eyes, black or blonde hair. Students will also become familiar with DNA and RNA. Students will also be able to distinguish between Recessive and Dominate traits. Students will also be introduced to punnett squares. Independent Work – establishing engagement (8-10 minutes): After introduction, students will be asked to complete a couple of punnett squares on their own. Guiding Purpose – fostering engagement (3-5 minutes): I will also touch base with regards to phenotypes and genotypes. Explaining which are physical traits and which are gene traits. Interactive Instruction and Authentic Engagement – deepening understanding (25-40 minutes): Students will complete a series of punnett squares and identify genotypes and phenotypes Students will be able to discuss their own phenotypes Closure and Consolidation – making meaning, clarify (5-10 minutes): We will close by a round of questions and answers to check for understanding
