Complete Vocabulary Chapter One Ten Words in Context and Matching Words with Definitions. Check your answers on
the Ms. Hedrick’s teacher page. Turn in for credit.
Classwork:
1. View the PPT “Theme” located on Ms. H’s teacher page under Course documents in the Unit One Folder.

the three stories at the end of the powerpoint. Identify the theme for each story in a full sentence and write a
sentence explaining what is in the story to tell you that that is the theme. Turn in for credit.
2. Use the two handouts in your notebook “Annotation” and “Annotation Rubric” and the handout
“10 Questions . . .” (attached) to annotate the poems “Dreams” and “Dreams Deferred.” Then identify the theme
for each poem in a full sentence and write a sentence explaining what is in the poem to tell you that that is the
theme. These will be discussed in class on Tuesday.
