From your answer to Problem 5.6(b), by setting Ay = 0, please also determine the region in the qx − qy
plane for which lowest-order single-mode stripe states of the form u(x, y) = Aq cos(qx) exist near onset.
Do both rectangular states Eq. (E5.6) and stripe state exist near onset?
For extra credit, determine whether a hexagonal pattern exists near onset using the same kind of
approximation (just lowest-order Fourier modes present).
