KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY KUTZTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF SECONDARY EDUCATION COLLEGE OF EDUCATION COURSE TITLE: EDU 590 Internship/Practicum in Supervision I. COURSE DESCRIPTION: The student will be assigned to an environment that provides the professional experiences related to the student’s field of academic interest and study. Under the supervision of a school district administrator with coordination by a graduate faculty member in the Department of Secondary Education, the student will be exposed to the major task areas of policy determination, program development, curriculum design and instructional supervision. 3ch – 3 sh (360 hours of service) II. COURSE RATIONALE: This required “capstone” course provides the student with the practical experience in an academic setting that parallels the work in the Supervisory Certificate in Curriculum and Instruction. III. COURSE OBJECTIVES: A. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Design curriculum scope and sequence 2. Evaluate instructional methodologies and strategies 3. Monitor and develop alternative forms of student assessment 4. Assess instructional service delivery 5. Identify staff development needs and resources 6. Plan activities to address the needs of the educational program 7. Integrate curriculum across multiple disciplines 8. Develop appropriate budgetary planning for curriculum and personnel development ASSESSMENT: Assessment of each graduate student’s level of accomplishment with reference to the course objectives will be based upon a subset of the following: Observations within classroom setting Creation of lesson plan notebook Post-observation conference Completion of PDE-430 IV. V. COURSE OUTLINE: A. Perform 360 hours of service in an academic setting under the supervision of a school district administrator. B. Maintain and submit a portfolio of activities and observations as required by the university for the program that the student is doing the internship. C. Attend a minimum of three practicum meetings with the supervisor from the Department of Secondary Education. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES: Instructional resources will vary with assignment.
