Training of Master Trainers on Art Integrated Learning for North East Regions

A five day training programme for the Capacity Building of Master Trainers (MT) was
organized for the teacher educators of DIETs and SIEs/SCERTs of the North Eastern States of India to
help them understand the process of incorporating art activities in the process of learning and
development while facilitating classroom transactions at the primary level.
The main focus of the workshop was to understand the role of arts as basis of teaching and
learning in the primary classes as it invigorates the mind and creates enthusiasm among children
towards learning. Learning using environmental observations makes it permanent and leads to the
holistic development of every child. Main objective of the program was to provide teacher educators
cum master trainers adequate exposure and training to understand the important role of arts in learning
and development of children at the primary level and initiate the process of training primary teachers
on Art Integrated Learning in their respective Districts and States.
Training was based on the package (seven modules) and was fully interactive in nature.
Sessions conducted included: ice breakers, Arts in day to day activities of the school, methods and
materials of arts education, arts and arts education, integration of arts with other subjects, role of
museums in education and evaluation (CCE in AIL). Involvement of the participants was ensured
through group work, rapid fire rounds, presentations and mock sessions everyday. Prof Pawan Sudhir,
with the team of experts such as Purnima Sampat, Asha Singh, Ashok Arora, Sharbari Banerjee and
Sulekha Bhargava facilitated the process of clarifying the concept of art integrated learning. There were
films, power point presentations and actual work of arts and crafts to motivate and guide Master
Trainers through every session. They were given time for adequate practice to plan and conduct
activities for their role of MT on AIL.
There were special assemblies by the teams of participants every day. Participants were able to
create a song of their own to appreciate the life and speciality of their States. They enjoyed singing this
song everyday. There were performances, puppet shows and displays by the participants.
Each day got over with feedback from the participants on the quality of content and facilitation
during different sessions. All the participants were given a copy of the training package, focus paper
and copy of the films and power point presentations to equip them for the future trainings to be
conducted in the subject.
Prof. Bagchi and Dr. Vijoy of NERIE, Shillong provided support to facilitate the team of
experts and the participants towards making the program a success.
The program ended with the valedictory address by Prof. Bagchi, Principal, NERIE, Shillong, sharing
of experiences by the participants, awarding certificates to the participants, formal vote of thanks by Dr.
Sharbri Benerjee, and last but not the least, an assurance from Prof. Pawan Sudhir, Head DEAA, on
behalf of NCERT, to provide academic support to the master trainers and their States, as and when
requested for the effective implementation of art integrated learning at the primary level of school
education.
