Short Report of the Programs conducted by the DEAA during Sep. and Oct. 2011 to be up loaded on Council's website. (i) Training of Master Trainers in Arts Education for Elementary Level of Education (PAC code : 23.06) Co-ordinator: Dr. Pawan Sudhir A two-day workshop was held for the Key Resource Persons (KRPs) for the Training of Master Trainers in Arts Education for Elementary Level of Education on 29-30 September, 2011, in NCERT Campus . Among participants there were key resource persons from North East, Delhi, Maharashtra and Karnatka. Key Resource Persons from the North Eastern states were specially invited to gain an understanding of the integration of art activities in the teaching-learning transaction taking place in the classrooms at the elementary level, and stock - taking of the existing resources with different states, to initiate the process of capacity building of teacher educators and teachers, and thereof the implementation of Art Integrated Learning. Various presentations were given by the teachers from the MCD schools who had been implementing art integrated learning in their classrooms. A video conversation of Dr. Shyam Benegal with Prof. Pawan Sudhir was also presented that helped the educators to understand the importance of educating children through the medium of art activities. The experiences presented by the speakers focused on the actualization of potential that children would have through the training of their cognitive, affective and psychological domains of development. The program is an effort to initiate development of the cascade model for the capacity building of the different Regions in Art Education. (ii) Training of Master Trainers for North East Regions – NERIE Shillong and Training of Key Resource Persons for Art Education (PAC code : 23.06) Co-ordinator: Prof. Pawan Sudhir, Head DEAA, NIE Local Co-ordinator: Prof. Bagchi, Principal NERIE, Shillong From 18/10/11 to 22/10/11 at NERIE, Shillong A five day training programme for the Capacity Building of Master Trainers (MT) was organized for the teacher educators of DIETs and SIEs/SCERTs of the North Eastern States of India to help them understand the process of incorporating art activities in the process of learning and development while facilitating classroom transactions at primary level. The main focus of the workshop was to understand the role of arts as basis of teaching and learning in the primary classes as it invigorates the mind and creates enthusiasm among children towards learning. Learning using environmental observations makes it permanent and leads to the holistic development of every child. Main objective of the program was to provide teacher educators cum master trainers adequate exposure and training to understand the important role of arts in learning and development of children at primary level and initiate the process of training primary teachers on Art Integrated Learning in their respective Districts and States. Training was based on the package (seven modules) and was fully interactive in nature. Sessions conducted included; ice breaker, Arts in day to day activities of the school, methods and materials of arts education, arts and arts education, integration of arts with other subjects, role of museum in education and evaluation (CCE in AIL). Involvement of the participants was ensured through group work, rapid fire rounds, presentations and mock sessions everyday. Prof Pawan Sudhir with the team of experts such as; Purnima Sampat, Asha Singh, Ashok Arora, Sharbari Banerjee and Sulekha Bhargava, facilitated the process of clarifying the concept of art integrated learning. There were films, power point presentations and actual work of arts and crafts to motivate and guide Master Trainers through every session. They were given time for adequate practice to plan and conduct activities for their role of MT on AIL. There were special assemblies by the teams of participants every day. Participants were able to create A song of their own to appreciate the life and speciality of their States. They enjoyed singing this song everyday. There were performances, puppet shows and displays by the participants. Each day got over with feed back from the participants on quality of the content and facilitation during different sessions. All the participants were given a copy of the training packge, focus paper and copy of the films and power point presentations to equip them for the future trainings to be conducted in the subject. Prof Bagchi and Dr Vijoy of NERIE Shillong provided all support to facilitated the team of experts and the participants for making the program a success. Program ended with the valedictory address by Prof. Bagchi, Principal NERIE Shillong, sharing of experiences by the participants and awarding certificates to the participants.
