NMP Mentorship Program 2014 - 2015 Purpose The purpose of the Mentorship Program is to support participants to implement the four principles of the NMP Model: 1. Multiple mathematics pathways with relevant and challenging content aligned to specific fields of study. 2. Acceleration that enables students to complete a college-level math course more quickly than in the traditional developmental math sequence. 3. Intentional use of strategies to help students develop skills as learners. 4. Curriculum design and pedagogy based on proven practice. Each mentee college will be paired with a coach who will provide individualized assistance through the year prior to implementation of classes. The coach will work with a college leadership team through the planning process laid out in the NMP Implementation Guide. Benefits of Participating in the NMP Mentorship Program The coach provides individualized support to answer questions, help the college team problem-solve and serve as a “critical friend” to give feedback. The coach helps the college team stay informed about new developments in the statewide project, connect with work at other colleges and to identify opportunities that are well suited for the college’s goals. The coach provides an external prompt to keep the work on track and moving forward. Responsibilities of Mentee Colleges: Identify primary contact for the coach. Establish a leadership team to oversee the planning process as outlined in the NMP Implementation Guide. The leadership team should meet regularly, at least monthly. Develop an implementation plan with the goal of offering classes in at least one NMP pathway in Fall 2015.
