Minutes
I.
Roll Call
Present: Sandy Blue, Jim Buffalo, Laura Caldwell, Hilary Churchill, Carla Farniok, Richard Hamilton,
Tishly Herrington, Dan Rathjen, Kim Sedgwick, Jamie Shuda, Martha Youngmeyer
Excused: Chris Brown, Suzanne Boussaard, Amber Dodds, Ed Lavin, Sheila Kirby, Jackie Thompson
II.
Minutes (Suzanne Boussaard) – Minutes will be approved at the next meeting.
III. Treasurer’s Report (Jim Buffalo) – The Scholarship Account has a balance of $10,362.46. The
Endowment Account as a balance of $99,632.07, and the General Account has a balance of $4,138.78.
These are all as of June 1, 2009. There was $500.00 taken out of the Scholarship Account. There was
$93.00 for ballots and $366.70 for the luncheon taken out of the General Account.
IV. President’s Report (Ed Lavin) – No Report
V.
Civil Service Employee of the Month (Laura Caldwell) - Zach Pratt from University Technology is the
recipient of the June 2009 CSEC Employee of the Month award. His presentation will be on June 1st at
10:00 in Morgan 104.
Laura handed out Employee of the Month packets.
VI.
Vice President for Administrative Services Report (Jackie Thompson) – No Report
VII. Director of Human Resources (Pam Bowman) – Benefits Choice has been extended for a couple of
weeks. This is to change your health insurance only. This does not include the flex spending for medical
and daycare.
There was a workshop about audits to help employees understand the audit process. It was well
attended.
Microsoft Office workshops continue.
Prescreening for the Learner Trainee Program has started. Current employees can look into participating
in this. Contact Renee Simpson to get on a list for the next prescreening sessions.
Pam volunteered to assist with the Active Shooter Exercise on campus. It was a great experience and the
OPS officers did very well.
Al Waters has a son that is on the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. He supervises 36 people and many do
not receive packages. He wants to know if anyone or office would be interested in adopting a soldier.
Please contact Al Waters if you are interested.
Human Resources has many internal changes happening. Letisha Trepac has moved to Budget,
Planning, and Institutional Research. Becky Ebey will be taking over her position in Human Resources.
Andrea Henderson is the new Director for Equal Opportunity and Access. Linda Farr will be taking
Andrea’s position. Sheila Downing will be taking Linda’s position in classification.

Representative Reports to Council
1. Affirmative Action Internship (Tishly Herrington) – No Report – Tishly went around and met
everyone to let them know she will be attending these meetings for the Council.
2. Accreditation Committee (Martha Youngmeyer) – No Report
3. Women’s Center (Martha Youngmeyer) – No Report
4. Web Page (Jim Buffalo) – Received Tishly and Sandy’s pictures for the web page. Jim found the
scholarship information on the website and is hoping to get the information updated and a link put
on the CSEC website to this information.
5. Provost Advisory Council (Amber Dodds) – No Report
6. Training and Development (Carla Farniok) – No Report

3. Award Selection (Dan Rathjen) – Dan received Thank you notes from Megan Harkey for a
scholarship and from Sandy Pendell for a book award.

XII. New Business: There was discussion about getting possible hard copies of the Civil Service Handbook.
The website has all of the up to date information. There was an idea about putting it on a cd or zip drive
and handing it out in the new employee packet.
XIII. Old Business:
1. Proposed Language for CSEC Actions for Constitution (Donation) – Not enough in attendance
for a vote.
