How will the programme help?
The programme aims to help you understand
persisting pain and to introduce a
manageable exercise programme. It will also
help you to plan how to return to activities
that you have stopped. Although it is not
designed to cure your pain, most people
report that they improve.
The Programme
 Each group will have a maximum of 10
people.
 There will be 9 sessions over a period of
3 weeks
 Mon & Weds. 09.15 – 1530
Tues.
09.15 – 1500
 We will notify you of any changes to this
proposed timetable.
During the programme we plan to:
 Help you explore new ways of managing
persisting pain
 Improve your confidence
 Help you understand why pain persists.
 Enjoy a better quality of life.
 Increase your general fitness
 Reduce frustration and anxiety
How will we know if I have improved?
At the beginning and the end of the
programme we will use questionnaires and
activities to measure how you are doing.
To give us a chance to catch up and discuss
your progress, there is a review during the
year after the programme
(roughly at 3 months).
Each group comes back together for 2 hours
at the review appointment.
Who will I see on the programme?
The majority of the programme will be run
by physiotherapists and physiotherapy
assistants. However programmes will also
have talks from guest speakers wherever
possible such as the Disability Employment
Advisor.
Can anyone else attend?
Relatives and friends are encouraged to attend the programme for one day at the end
of the second week usually the 2nd week and
for any of the reassessments after the programme.
What do I need to bring with me?
 Comfy clothes to exercise in
 Comfortable shoes
 The handbook you are given on the
programme
 Glasses if you use them
 Swimming costume
 Any medication that you would normally
take during the day
Let us know if:
 You are seen by another specialist
 You have changes in your general health
 Your situation improves and you no longer
need to come.
 If your circumstances change and you can
no longer attend for 3 weeks.
