Support Your
Hospital Charity
Abseil 100 ft at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford
supporting your hospital charity.
Every year hundreds of people put themselves on the ropes and raise thousands of
pounds for our hospital causes. Will you join them on Sunday 19th June?
It costs just £20 to enter and we ask you to aim to raise £100 or more in
sponsorship. You need to be aged 18 or over and medically fit to take part.
Please see opposite for the list of hospital areas you can abseil for.
Just fill in the form on the back page, tick your chosen fund, send it to us with your
entry fee – and then get fundraising. We will help you with advice on how to raise
as much as possible for the area you have chosen.
You can abseil on your own or get a group of friends or colleagues to take on the
challenge together. We’ve had people aged 18 to 88 take part in this fun event so
why not sign up today?
William’s Story
Johanna and Peter Dodd
have been fundraising for the
hospital charity since they lost
their four year old son, William,
to cancer.
With friends and family they
put together a team of over
twenty to abseil in 2015 for our
Childhood Cancer Research Fund
(www.williamsfund.co.uk).
Johanna explains: ‘It was a fabulous event and it was great to see our group of friends
and family coming together to overcome their fears. I felt so proud of them all, as they all
abseiled with smiles on their faces and raised thousands for this cause we care about so
passionately.’
‘It’s a fantastic event – a day you will never forget so we’d recommend the hospital abseil
to anyone. In fact most of us are eager to have another go!’’
Who will you abseil for?
Sunday 19th June, 2016
Churchill Surgical Unit Appeal Every year around 8,000 people have surgery
at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford. Many are patients at the Oxford Cancer and
Haematology Centre, having operations for cancer including breast, prostate and
bowel as well as other serious conditions.
Patients having operations will spend time in the Day Surgery Unit. The hospital’s
charity is raising funds to help redesign the area and make it more comfortable and
welcoming with better privacy for patients. Please help us make a huge difference
to thousands of patients when they need it most.
Hidden Heroes The Hidden Heroes Fund is here to thank and encourage staff
working across our hospitals. It provides additional specialist training and staff
development, as well as supporting motivational staff recognition programmes to
acknowledge our staff’s dedication and care.
We’ve called it Hidden Heroes because for every patient there are numerous
hospital staff that are essential to excellent care – and so many of them are behind
the scenes. This new fund aims to make sure that staff from every corner of our
hospitals receive the encouragement and thanks they deserve.
Adult Cystic Fibrosis Fund This life-threatening genetic disorder affects many
organs in the body and leads to severe infection of the lungs. People with CF often
spend long periods of time in hospital. The Oxford Adult CF Centre is moving to a
new specialist unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. With your support, we will be
able to dramatically improve the facilities we provide for people with CF to make
their stays in hospital as positive as possible.
The Horton Maternity Ward is a consultant-led unit in Banbury offering a homely,
comforting experience with the benefit of 24 hour obstetric and anaesthetic cover.
The Birth Suite has six rooms, one with a birthing pool. Through fundraising we are
able to offer mums-to-be extra services that really make a difference.
The Abingdon Midwives work in the local community supporting women and their
families before, during and after childbirth. Raising additional funds through this
abseil will help the Abingdon Midwives to enhance what they are able to offer by
funding additional equipment and extra specialist training for their team.
I.M.P.S. (Injury Minimization Programme for Schools) teaches first aid, resuscitation
skills, risk awareness and injury prevention to over 5,000 local Oxfordshire school
children every year. Do join our abseil team and help us to empower children to
cope in an emergency.
