Part I - General

Degrees
1.1
The masters degrees listed in Schedule 1 may be undertaken in the faculty
pursuant to this part and Part II, III, IV, V or VI of these regulations, as the case
requires.
1.2
A general degree may be undertaken in one of the specialities listed in
Schedule 2.
1.3
The title of a degree undertaken in a specialty shall include 1.3.1
the name of the specialty in brackets; or
1.3.2
the words "specialising in" followed by the name of the speciality.
Interpretations
In these regulations unless the contrary intention appears approved means approved by the faculty board;
candidate means a candidate for a degree;
course of study means the course of study for a degree determined by the faculty
board under these regulations;
degree in this part means a degree specified in Schedule 1;
faculty means the Faculty of Education;
faculty board means the faculty board of the faculty;
faculty information handout means a faculty handbook or such other publication
concerning a course of study, whether bound, loose leaf or in electronic form, as the
faculty board determines from time to time.
3.
Course of study
3.1
Subject to these regulations, the faculty board may from time to time
determine the requirements of a course of study and in relation to these
requirements may determine any matter or thing including but not limited to -

number, content and duration;
3.1.2
sequence;
3.1.3
in relation to a thesis, form, supervision, submission and distribution;
3.1.4
candidate attendance and participation;
3.1.5
credit points;
3.1.6
assessment; and
3.1.7
satisfactory completion.
3.2
The faculty board may determine special requirements for or in relation to a
course of study for the Master of Education undertaken in a specialty.
3.3
The faculty board must cause any determination under this section to be
published in a faculty information handout.
Credit
A candidate granted credit towards a degree must complete the course of study in the
time specified by the faculty board.
5.
English language requirement
In addition to the specific admission requirements for each degree, an applicant for
admission to candidature must satisfy the English language requirements specified by
the faculty board and published on the University’s website.

Mode of candidature

Except as otherwise provided in these regulations, candidature for a degree 6.1.1
must be continuous; and
6.1.2
may be full-time or part-time.
A course of study undertaken by an international student at an Australian
campus must be undertaken by full-time candidature.
Intermission
The faculty board may, from time to time and subject to any conditions specified,
grant a candidate leave of absence, but for no more than 12 months in total, unless
the faculty board in any particular case otherwise determines.

Award
A candidate who satisfactorily completes a course of study for a degree is qualified for
the award of that degree.

9.
Compliance
9.1
Subject to this section, a candidate must comply with these regulations and
with the relevant course of study requirements determined by the faculty
board under these regulations, as in force or published from time to time.
9.2
Where the faculty board considers that a candidate has, since first enrolling for
a degree, been unreasonably adversely affected by any change in the
regulations or course of study requirements, the faculty board must permit the
candidate to qualify for the degree under the regulations or course of study
requirements in force or published at some time during candidature, provided
the faculty board is satisfied that the work so required to be completed is
equivalent in standard to that currently required to complete the course of
study.
Part II - Specific Masters
10.
Degrees
In this part, except where otherwise expressly provided, "degree" means the degree of

Master in Applied Linguistics for Language Teachers
•
Master of Education
•
Master of Education (TESOL International)
•
Master in Organisational Leadership
•
Master of Regional Education and Community Development –
as the case requires.
11.
Admission to candidature
An applicant for admission to candidature for a degree must have qualified for an
approved 11.1.1 three year bachelors degree in a relevant field with an average grade of credit
in the final year;
11.1.2 three year bachelors degree and an approved fourth year of study;
11.1.3 four year bachelors degree; or
11.1.4 have other qualifications or experience deemed equivalent by the faculty
board.

12.
Course of study
A course of study may comprise 12.1.1 units only;
12.1.2 units and a professional project; or
12.1.3 units and a thesis.
13.
Time limits
The course of study must be completed in a minimum of 1.5 years and a maximum of 5
years.
14.
Reversion
14.1
A candidate for a degree, who withdraws from candidature after satisfactorily
completing 14.1.1 in one semester of full-time candidature or equivalent, the necessary
units for the related graduate or postgraduate certificate, is qualified
for the award of that certificate; or
14.1.2 in two semesters of full-time candidature or equivalent, the necessary
units for the related graduate or postgraduate diploma, is qualified for
the award of that diploma –
where appropriate, in the case of the Postgraduate Certificate or
Postgraduate Diploma of Education, in the relevant specialty listed in
Schedule 2.
14.2
For the purposes of this section, the degrees and related graduate or
postgraduate certificates and diplomas are as set out in Schedule 3.
Part III - Master in Counselling
15.
Degrees
In this part "degree" means the degree of Master in Counselling
16.
Admission to candidature
An applicant for admission to candidature for a degree must –
16.1.1 have qualified for an approved three year bachelors degree with a credit
average in the final year; or
16.1.2 have such other qualifications or experience deemed equivalent or a
satisfactory substitute to paragraph 16.1.1, by the faculty board.

Course of study
The course of study is comprised of units.
18.
Time limits
The course of study for the degree must be completed in a minimum of 1.5 years and a
maximum of 5 years.
Part IV - Master in School Leadership
19.
Degree
In this part "degree" means the degree of Master in School Leadership.
20.
Admission to candidature
An applicant for admission to candidature for a degree must–
20.1.1 have qualified for an approved four year bachelors degree; or
20.1.2 have such other qualifications or experience deemed equivalent or a
satisfactory substitute to paragraph 20.1.1, by the faculty board.
21.
Course of study
The course of study is comprised of units.
22.
Time limits
The course of study for the degree must be completed in a minimum of 1 year and a
maximum of 4 years.
Part V - Master of Psychology (Counselling) and Master of Psychology
(Educational and Developmental)
23.
Degree
In this part "degree" means the degree of

24.
Admission to candidature
An applicant for admission to candidature for the degree must have, within 10 years of
the application, satisfactorily completed four years study in psychology approved by
the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council.
25.
Course of study
The course of study is comprised of 25.1.1 units;
25.1.2 supervised practical work; and
25.1.3 a thesis.
26.
Time limits
The course of study must be completed in a minimum of 2 years and a maximum of 6
years.
Part VI - Master of Teaching
27.
Degree
In this part "degree" means the degree of

Admission to candidature
An applicant for admission to candidature for the degree must have satisfactorily
completed a degree or equivalent diploma in a discipline approved by the faculty
board.

The course of study is comprised of units.

Time limits
The course of study must be completed in a minimum of 1.5 years and a maximum of 6
years.
