MSI Mid-Candidature/Progress Review Requirements Some MIGR requirements and procedures for a Mid-Candidature Review/Progress Report are listed below. Read the Procedures carefully. Mid-Candidature Review / Progress Review 19. The purpose of this milestone is to ensure that: The student’s progress since Confirmation remains satisfactory, and that they have met any requirements agreed to as part of the Confirmation process; The student remains on track to complete their research project by their thesis submission date; The student’s research and other professional skills are developing appropriately; and The resources available to the student, including supervision and facilities, are adequate for the purpose of completion of the degree within the required 28. There are no provisions for either a pre-Mid Candidature Review or a pre-Pre-Submission Seminar extension (if you enrolled before Jan 1 2015). MSI REQUIREMENTS WRITTEN COMPONENT Minimum 15,000 to 25,000 words written report submission. This can include: (draft) publications(s) and/or thesis chapters. Traditional Thesis - the report should include a concise introduction and statement of the problem (both of these scholarly and practical). It should also include the research designs and methods and preliminary discussion of key findings and contributions to-date. Thesis Including Published Works - submit at least one article (as submitted or published) and one article in draft. List of publications/presentations Timeline and chapter outline Must demonstrate the contribution to knowledge at this stage of the project through preliminary findings May consist of fully drafted sections of the thesis that show the preliminary contribution to the field. The full Written Component is to be provided to the Graduate Research Manager, your supervisors, and all review panel members at least TWO WEEKS prior to the Mid Candidature Review Presentation. Students should consult with their supervisor ahead of this deadline to ensure they have covered what is necessary and received feedback on their report, as appropriate. ORAL COMPONENT A 20-minute oral presentation: slides or graphics to accompany the oral presentation need to be provided to the Graduate Research Manager, your supervisors, and all review panel members at least ONE WEEK prior to the Mid Candidature Review. Students should consult with their supervisor ahead of this one week deadline to ensure they have covered what is necessary and received feedback as appropriate. It is recommended students have at least one practice run of their presentation prior to the Review. Presentations should be no longer than 20 minutes. LOGISTICS Please liaise with your supervisors and the Graduate Research Manager well ahead of the MidCandidature Review deadline to ensure a suitable Review Panel is established and facilities and resources are booked.
