Dhiraj is a Partner at RockPort capital. Trained as a mechanical engineer, Dhiraj Malkani has always
been drawn to the importance of things—the real, the physical. But after interacting with tangibles
for seven years in product development, the realm of the digital beckoned. He got the startup bug
and joined Boston University’s Photonics Incubator, where he helped faculty members build startups.
At Rockport Capital, Dhiraj has found the perfect balance, helping companies bring the physical into
the digital domain. Six years ago, Dhiraj pioneered a thesis predicting that the low cost of mobile
technology and hardware would soon bring physical assets into the digital world and launched an
investment focus around companies transforming transportation, energy, sustainability and natural
resources using digital tools, data analytics, IOT, mobile platforms and the cloud. Dhiraj is a
tinkerer, dreamer, avid technology adopter, entrepreneurship evangelist, geek at heart. Dhiraj is a
graduate of the University of Mumbai with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He earned an MS in
Mechanical Engineering from Boston University and an MBA from the Yale School of Management.
