COMS 1300 1. Have changes been made in the way instructors (faculty or graduate students) teaching your core courses in oral communication are trained, oriented, or supervised? Yes, training has been altered over the years, specifically in the before semester activities. Training continues throughout the semester and is altered according to student and TA needs. 2. Have changes been made in the base syllabus for your core courses in response to assessment results? I have added a speech where the student reads an academic article in communication studies and givespeech summarizing the article and discuss its strengths and weaknesses. The article speech aims at having students work with the academic side of communication studies. I also added a game speech where students work in a group to create a game that teaches a communication skill. Designing a game forces students to look at communications from a more pragmatic perspective both by figuring out how to teach a person a communication skill in a fun way and by having them work in groups teaches elements of interpersonal and work communication skills. 3. Have you adjusted the way the courses are assessed, the examinations, or the base content in the areas listed above in response to assessment results?] I added the speeches above, other than that its still tests and speeches that make up the majority of grades. I added blackboard quizzes to teach students some basic ideas of game design. 4. Have you made any changes in the way content is delivered such as adding on-line modules, improving classroom technology, using on-line quizzes or exams, making lectures available to students on-line, or flipping the classroom? I use blackboard for all tests and the quizzes. I also use a few videos to help students learn about games for there speech. I also make my test review lectures available online for students to re-watch I think this helps auditory learners. 5. Have you made any changes in how students are provided with help to improve their comprehension of the material such as on-line tutoring, face-to-face or group help sessions, etc. Nothing not mentioned above. I try to be available to help students a lot.
