Transferring from Chabot to
UC Berkeley
George Greer
Nov 15, 2012
Why Engineering?
• Grew up going to construction sites and
was interested in civil systems.
• Initially wanted to be garbage man or
nurse.
• Became interested in
water quality and resources.
• Graduated from Hayward
High School in 2008
Path to Transferring
• Decided that Chabot College was the best
option for me to become a civil engineer.
• Started at Chabot full time in Fall 2008.
• Trained for swimming ~20 hours / week
while going to school.
• Took 3 years to complete
coursework at Chabot.

Advice for Students
• Your math classes are the foundation for
your engineering education.
• Take advantage of the help offered by
professors and the Math Lab.
• Master time management and
organizational skills at Chabot.
• Pay attention in ENGR 25!
Differences between Chabot and Cal
• Pace at Cal is twice as fast as Chabot.
• A lot more people in your major.
• Coursework and tests are harder. Midterms
are very time sensitive
Biggest Surprises:
• Not everyone at Cal is a genius.
• Having to stay up late and not sleep much.
