Transferring from Chabot to UC Berkeley George Greer Nov 15, 2012 Why Engineering? • Grew up going to construction sites and was interested in civil systems. • Initially wanted to be garbage man or nurse. • Became interested in water quality and resources. • Graduated from Hayward High School in 2008 Path to Transferring • Decided that Chabot College was the best option for me to become a civil engineer. • Started at Chabot full time in Fall 2008. • Trained for swimming ~20 hours / week while going to school. • Took 3 years to complete coursework at Chabot. Differences between Chabot and Cal • Pace at Cal is twice as fast as Chabot. • A lot more people in your major. • Coursework and tests are harder. Midterms are very time sensitive Biggest Surprises: • Not everyone at Cal is a genius. • Having to stay up late and not sleep much.
