Required course for tutors participating in the College’s Tutorials Instructional Program. 2 hours. [Typical contact hours: 35] Prerequisite Skills None Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. demonstrate increased knowledge in the theory and principles of teaching, tutoring, and learning; 2. demonstrate increased interpersonal communication skills for establishing rapport with tutees; 3. demonstrate paraprofessional skills for conducting individual academic needs assessments; 4. apply technique for establishing and applying tutoring instructional plans, objectives, and problem-solving applications with individual students; 5. tutor in basic organizational and study skills as well as subject-specific areas; 6. demonstrate ability to tutor two or more students effectively in a group learning session.
