TRAINING FOR TUTORS
Catalog Description:
15 – Training for Tutors
2 units
Training for college tutors to acquire specific skills and techniques for tutoring in Academic
and vocational subject matter areas and basic skills. Required course for tutors participating
in the College’s Tutorials Instructional Program. 2 hours.

Prerequisite Skills
None
Expected Outcomes for Students:
Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:
1. demonstrate increased knowledge in the theory and principles of teaching, tutoring, and
learning;
2. demonstrate increased interpersonal communication skills for establishing rapport with
tutees;
3. demonstrate paraprofessional skills for conducting individual academic needs
assessments;
4. apply technique for establishing and applying tutoring instructional plans, objectives, and
problem-solving applications with individual students;
5. tutor in basic organizational and study skills as well as subject-specific areas;
6. demonstrate ability to tutor two or more students effectively in a group learning session.
