Chabot College Fall 2010 Course Outline for Physical Education 26 THEORY & TECHNIQUE OF DEFENSIVE FOOTBALL Catalog Description: 26 – Theory & Technique of Defensive Football 2 units Analysis and examination of various approaches to defensive intercollegiate football. Includes all aspects of defensive football; kick off, punt rush, punt return and P.A.T./FG rush. 2 hours. [Typical contact hours: 35] Prerequisite Skills: None Expected Outcomes for the Students: Upon completion of the course the student will be able to: 1. demonstrate intercollegiate football; 2. Identify and analyze the opponent's defense; 3. demonstrate the kicking game philosophies; 4. describe defensive football at Chabot College. Course Content: 1. Defense a. Purpose of defensive football 1) Physical and psychological approach to defensive football. 2) Stopping the offensive rushing game. 3) Utilizing defense for a scoring opportunity. b. Defensive Alignments and Responsibilities 1) Various position alignments a) Defensive line. b) Defensive line backers. c) Defensive backs. c. Techniques for each defensive position d. Strategy against various offensive philosophies e. Defensive strategy through: 1) scouting reports; 2) film analysis; 3) game plan orientation. f. Objectives and goals in defending opponents. 2. Kicking game a. Purpose of kicking game 1) Punt rush and punt return. 2) P.A.T./FG rush. 3) Kick off. b. Alignment of players for each phase of kicking game c. Techniques for each position on each kicking game d. Strategy against different teams’ kicking games e. Kicking game strategy through: 1) scouting reports; 2) film study; 3) game plan orientation. f.
