Chabot College September 1994 Course Outline for German 50B CONVERSATIONAL GERMAN Catalog Description: 50B - Conversational German 2 units Development of skills learned in German 50A. Understanding of spoken German through pronunciation, vocabulary, and applied grammar. Introduction to everyday life of German-speaking people and the skills needed to successfully function in culture. Prerequisite: German 50A completed with a grade of "C" or better. 3 hours. [Typical contact hours: 52.5] Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should: 1. have become proficient in using the conversational structures and vocabulary presented; 2. have further developed an understanding and appreciation of the culture of German-speaking people. Course Content: 1. Review and "recycling" of content of 50A. 2. Functional vocabulary and grammar to allow students to: a. extend, accept or refuse invitations b. gather information with a wide variety of interrogative strategies c. use culturally authentic maps and timetables d. make purchases e. describe simple physical ailments to pharmacists and doctors f. narrate simple events in past, present, and future g. make physical descriptions of people and things 3. Selective survey of major cultural and artistic achievements of German-speaking areas. Methods of Presentation: 1. 2. 3. 4.
