ESL READING AND WRITING SUPPLEMENT
Catalog Description:
500 – ESL
0 Units
ESL reading, writing, and grammar practice intended to develop ability to identify and apply concepts
and skills used to read and write college-level prose. Emphasis on developing an in-depth
understanding of concepts and assignments in the corresponding co-requisite class. Openentry/open-exit. Co-requisite: ESL 110A, 110B, 110C, 110D. Variable hours laboratory.

Expected Outcomes for Students:
Upon completion of the course the student should be able to:

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
1. Typical Assignments
a. Identify effective sentence, paragraph, and overall idea development in a writing assignment
for your co-requisite course.
b. Practice variations of sentence patterns and sentence combining.
c. Write responses to a reading assignment.
2. Methods of Evaluating Student Progress
a. Improved reading and writing skills as demonstrated in student’s performance in ESL 110A,
110B, 110C, 110D including performance on the final examination
