Faculty-Student Tutorial - ESL
(May be repeated 2 times.)
Self-paced, individualized instruction in academic English oral and written communication skills for
students who speak English as a second language. Focus on writing, reading, listening, and
speaking skills needed in college courses. 1.5-3.0 hours laboratory.

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
1. Typical Assignments
a. Select a newspaper article on a local issue. After reading, write a summary of the article. Then
underline the subjects and verbs; check for correctness. Then, meet with a tutor or instructor
to discuss your writing.
b. Select a reading card and answer sheet from the Multicultural Reading Workshop box. Answer
the prereading questions first. Then read the passage and answer the comprehension
questions. Write all answers on the answer sheet. Check with the Answer Key, a tutor or an
instructor. Write your score on the answer sheet.

c. Complete unit 14 of Focus on Grammar Basic CD. Take the review test at the end then view
your test score and record it on your learning plan.
