Chabot College/Las Positas College January 1993 Course Outline for Automotive Technology 69 AUTOMOTIVE TESTING AND DIAGNOSIS Catalog Description: 69 - Automotive Testing and Diagnosis (May be repeated three times) 3 units Inspection, diagnosis and repair of connected and related components, and malfunctioning parts; replacing and adjusting components for maximum efficiency and emission standards. Review Clean Air Car Course. Prerequisite: Automotive Technology 60B, 61B or equivalent. 1.5 hours lecture, 5 hours laboratory. Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. recognize the relationship of the total components of the automobile; 2. demonstrate the use of many different instruments to systematically diagnose malfunctioning parts; 3. demonstrate skills in repair and adjustment of these parts as per legal standards of the California Smog Check Program. Course Content: 1. Review of the engine, electrical/electronic, computer controlled, fuel and emission control systems of the automobile 2. Inspection, diagnosis, and repair of the previous systems 3. Driveability troubleshooting, and service 4. Mechanical systems, combination operations and repair 5. Use of various diagnostic equipment in the inspection, diagnosis and repair of automotive components and systems 6. Emission control inspections, diagnosis and repair as per legal standards 7. Review Clean Air Car coursework 8.
