General Information: Position Title: Analytical Chemist 18 24 Grade Grade To: Global Supply Chain BREEN TECHNOLOGY CENTER & Division Location Field Warrensville Cleveland OH City State Position Type FULL TIME Respond By Sep-25-2013 Travel Relocation Yes - 10% No Required Assistance Position Responsibilities: This position is an excellent opportunity for an individual to contribute to the long term growth and development of the Sherwin Williams Analytical Resource Center. This position is accountable for characterizing raw materials and coatings products, helping to resolve raw material and coatings problems through the use of analytical and physical measurement techniques, and for supporting existing and new product development efforts (both short- and long-term). This could be as an individual contributor, project team member, and/or team leader. In this role, there will be significant emphasis on providing support to help resolve customer complaints, field failures, production concerns, and/or manufacturing problems, primarily involving Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine (P&M), Architectural, and Diversified Brands businesses. Consequently, technical experience with product chemistries and formulation in these areas is preferred. This position is also accountable for developing and implementing analytical/physical test methods and procedures. The successful candidate will be well organized, capable of managing multiple project assignments and communicate effectively in written and verbal formats. Although primarily located at the Sherwin-Williams Breen Technology Center (BTC) in downtown Cleveland, OH, depending on business needs this individual may spend time at our Warrensville, OH laboratory location. Specific duties and accountabilities include: • Using a variety of instruments/methods to generate valid, high quality, defensible analytical results. • Effectively communicating analytical results and conclusions. • Completing assigned work and issuing reports within agreed-to-time frames. • Providing timely response to field failures, product development, and manufacturing problems. • Developing new methods and procedures or modifying existing methods in response to specific business needs. • As appropriate – assisting and training colleagues with instrument operation and analysis. • Continued professional development through on-the-job training, in-house training, and external courses/seminars/classes. • Adhering to safety, quality (e.g., ISO), and housekeeping policies and guidelines. Experience Required: • At least 1 - 3 years of analytical chemistry experience (i.e., instrumental analysis, physical characterization, wet chemistry, etc.) in an industrial R&D and/or academic research setting is required for this position. Direct application of analytical techniques for solving problems in the area of paints/coatings and/or polymers, is desired. • A basic knowledge of paint/coatings chemistry, formulation, and production, and/or coating field failure analysis experience is greatly desired.
