Centennial Honors College Western Illinois University Undergraduate Research Day 2012 Poster Presentation What Effect Do Certain Variables Have on Broker Disciplinary Actions? Jennifer Gorecki Faculty Mentor: Don T. Johnson Accounting and Finance The purpose of this research project is to determine what effect certain variables have on the disciplinary actions taken on real estate brokers in the United States. The variables that are used are the first broker exam fees, original license fee, the number of examinations that were taken, the number of examinations that were passed, the number of brokers required to maintain trust/escrow, the number of complaints received, and licenses granted to nonresidents of that state. Both the number of complaints and the number of complaints resulting in disciplinary action are taken as a percentage in each respective category. The other independent variables are in their original format (number). After performing a statistical regression with the data, the results show that the number of examinations passed was positively correlated with the disciplinary actions that were taken in each respective state. The report shows in further detail the exact reaction each independent variable had with the dependent variable.
