During CurricUNET set-up, this course was placed in the wrong tree and did not come to the voting members. Concern expressed that the Clinical hours are not accounted for in the 3 units.

Dov had extensive comments on these courses. Tabled until he is able to attend the meeting.

LIBS 2, Library research and Information Literacy Skills via Popular Culture, 2 units

Tram suggested that separating comments into a different column would make reviewing them easier. Jane replied that this is a CurricUNET programming issue.

A discussion of Methods of Evaluation resulted in the impression that courses originally input by CurricUNET might have Methods of Evaluation listed that are not on the drop-down list available for new and modified courses. Jane will agenda a thorough discussion of what should be on the list for a future meeting.

There was discussion on the deadline imposed by publishing dates, uncertainty as to how many proposals are in the queue, and the consequences of not meeting the deadline. Begoña commented that the committee is becoming an “editing” committee. Jane spoke to the possibility of prioritizing some proposals to meet outside mandates.

Service Learning Courses

Clara McLean and Stephanie Zappa explained the changes they are working on for

SERV 85. This is a variable unit class: 1 unit is earned by participating in on-campus discussion/reflection, and 1-2 units are earned in field work in the community. The class has been leveled (SERV 85A, B, C, D) and each is prerequisite to the next. A

Curriculum Committee

12/4/12, Page 3 culminating activity has been added to each level, designed to lead the student to a growing level of leadership skills and maturity.

Discussion topics:

How many students take this 4 times?

Do students really benefit from 12 units which may impact financial aid resources and do not transfer to UC?

Might the last level be conducted via independent study?

If a student has already done volunteer work, can he or she start at a higher level?

Equivalency Project with LPC

This is being discussed at District Curriculum Council, which is meeting this Friday.

The list being worked on was drawn from Banner information by IT, and is now being validated by the colleges. LPC has started on this project and may be contacting their counterparts at Chabot. Since this is a district wide project, it is important to talk with colleagues at the other college and reach agreement.

9. The meeting was adjourned at 4:00
