GW Monitors in the new buildings are being set up so that if a teacher is absent, the administrative assistants can put it on there instead of having to post it on the door of the classroom. Review of last minutes. The approval of minutes from 9-17-10 pending changes. YW-Coordinators for events mentioned at the retreat, for fund raising and the like to act as a point person. Should type out what the person should do. Recruit from all of classified. They would be nonvoting member of the senate. Chasity typed out her report for technology committee and we said this was a good way to do this. Don Bosco ASCC president introduces himself. GW-Certain things need to be on the campus website. Required by law that’s why it got taken down so quickly until this can be corrected. NM-Facilities – Removal of staff spots in lot G except for one middle row, lot F still a full staff lot. Part of lot A still being used by contractors. Health and safety committee- more netting added around 3900 to protect people from swallows. Contractors will not touch the nets while they are nesting. M & O picked up around 10 dead baby birds. GC- M&O would like to clean up the poop from the swallows but is too short-handed for this. GW-Free speech policy needs to be gone over. It needs to be looked over by the district lawyers. Part of District Board Policies. Gordon gave us a handout. Military recruiters have to report in and pay to use the tables on campus. Is it free speech or are they vendors. Chancellor wants feedback on this. YW-VP’s Report. Finally elected tri-chairs Yvonne, George Railey, Kathy Kelly. Academic Program review got looked over. CS-Surprised that everyone was doing program review differently. No clear process college-wide YW- Yes, want to get better standardization of this. Also discussed how getting input from everyone is really important. Input from lab tech’s, etc. also classifieds need to speak up. Set some agenda items. RM-Treasurer’s report we have $1,511.22 GC-SEIU Have membership cards for everyone. We started negotiations on Wednesday of this week. They brought in a lawyer and the district talked through him. This is going to be a very tough negotiation. A very sticky issue is going to be benefits. We might have to do a demonstration to maintain our benefits. We are going after the banks next because not only are employees losing their job, but 2 losing their house as well. The police joined us because they are being attacked on benefits as well. We are talking about making Casaer Chavez’s birthday a holiday. Chabot is one of the oldest cc’s We are our own trend-setters. People don’t like the co-pays. If we settle now it would go until 2012. If we settle next year maybe it will go until 2014. We are looking to have a 5 year contract. GC- Part of the union thing is not only pay but benefits. At some point there has to be some kind of compromise. If can‘t have the Cadillac package have to have some kind of concessions. The only two people that speak at negotiations are Mark Smythe and Kaden Kratzer. YW-Do we know what faculty are asking for as a comparison. They are talking about taxing health benefits. GC-A lot of K-12’s have five year contracts. Will put out a survey to see what people want. CG- Survey monkey is a good way to do this. GC- Faculty get 50% release time for negotiation. The top person gets 75% release time so they have a person at the district office every day. We would like to see the classified staff a little more respected than they are. We will have the results of the survey posted for everyone to see. In 1985 employees had lifetime benefits. Those were traded away in exchange for two holidays. YW- Classified prioritization. Program Review-gave handout. Because needs change every year ask for different things every year. CG-It would be nice to keep those areas that aren’t funded but still on the books listed in the staffing requests. YW-We could carry over previous vacancies. Everyone is welcome to come to PBRC meetings to discuss these issues. Can let me know what positions are missing. TA- Some people might not understand what goes on at the meetings. They see the e-mails but don’t know what they can do or what they really mean. YW- It’s good to give documentation to support your position. Administrators respect documentation. NM- In military have intelligence on what suppose to have and what do have and can make a comparison and can judge from that. Good to know what’s vacant .Too many positions popping up left and right and I’m wondering where the money’s coming for that. GW-Flex day lot of classes listed for us to benefit from. Is anyone planning on taking the word class? Let Catherine Powell know what you are interested in. Flex day is October 26. CP and Jennifer Lange are cochairs. Adjourned 2:10 p.m.
