POSITION / TITLE: RESPONSIBLE TO: DIRECT REPORTS: LOCATION: DATE: Sorghum Breeder - Mexico Sorghum Crop Research Lead 0 Bajio area, Mexico May 15 JOB DESCRIPTION Primary Responsibility: The Sorghum Breeder will be responsible for all the operational aspects of the Advanta Mexico Sorghum breeding program, including identifying hybrids adapted to Mexico sorghum markets. Major Job Responsibilities: Develop strong interactions and fluent communications and relationships with Business, Marketing, TD and Production/Foundation departments. In consultation with the Crop Research Leader, assist in developing the breeding strategy for the Mexico Sorghum breeding program maintaining alignment with global sorghum, overall crop strategy and corporate business strategy. Execute the defined strategy by running efficient operations within the approved budget. Incorporate desired traits in new products by using speed to market breeding tools, such as DH and Marker Assisted Selection. Monitor multi-location early generation trialing & develop efficient means for evaluating pipeline hybrids within and external to Mexico. Develop and ensure quality processes to achieve targets in a timely & efficient manner. Train the Mexico based Breeding staff to carry out targeted tasks efficiently. Job Skills & Requirements: Sound knowledge of crop breeding techniques with demonstrated ability to use statistical analysis as well as molecular breeding techniques. Ability to understand and assist in evaluating the value of specific traits for sorghum. Excellent knowledge of crop agronomy. Excellent computer skills. Team player with good interpersonal skills. Self-motivated with demonstrated excellent communication skills. Qualifications: Research – 3-5 years of plant breeding experience in seed or at a public institution required Agriculture - Knowledge of agriculture industry including sorghums Equipment Operation - Experience operating and repairing agricultural equipment Quality - Attention to Detail Advanced Math Skills - Including statistical analysis and interpretation Computer knowledge – Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, Teamwork - Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others Multicultural Approach - Ability to work in a corporation with global network (global company) Educational Background: Master’s Degree or equivalent Experience in Plant Breeding and Genetics or related field of study, with 3-5 years of experience in seed research required. Ph.D. in Plant Breeding & Genetics preferred. Travel Requirements: Approximately 30% travel to company sites and including domestic and international travel Compensation: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
