The INHOPE inaugural one-day conference will create an exciting forum and target an audience representing the areas of law enforcement, child welfare, Internet Service Providers (ISP's) and the interested parents of children all eager for 'frank talk.'

This conference will demonstrate the importance of protecting people's rights, especially childrens'; preventing victimization through consumer education; promote a network linking the experts and specialists in the field of sexual exploitation and online illegal content and enable the expansion of the INHOPE network to new and diverse stakeholders.

INHOPE has 18 members in 16 countries world wide tackling illegal material online. INHOPE believes that a safer environment on the

Internet can only be created once all relevant stakeholders co-operate and exchange expertise.

During the conference there will be three breakout sessions enabling in-depth discussions amongst experts on the following three topics:

• Internet, Technology, Self Regulation and Defense Strategies

• Criminal Activity, Effective Investigation and Prosecution and

• Internet Safety Education - Are we reaching the key audiences?

The conference will identify defense strategies against exploitation on the Internet. It will identify current trends in Cybercrime and discuss and develop solutions. This will help to make the Internet a safer place for people of all ages to learn, play and work.

From the knowledge shared at the conference the conference team will produce a summary document reflecting the achievements and issues encountered by the different stakeholders. This document will provide important feedback and recommendations to national agencies active in this area, including national governments and EC funded programs.

The language of the conference will be English. No translation service will be available. We encourage you to register on our website on www.inhope.org/english/conf

OPERATION MARCY

INHOPE TIP LEADS TO BREAKUP OF LARGEST

GLOBAL CHILD PORN RING

Following from a tip received from the INHOPE

(Association of Internet Hotlines) member hotline in Germany (ECO's ICTF hotline) in July 2002, on

Friday 26th September 2003 the German Police in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt and prosecutors in the city of Halle cracked one of the largest global child pornography networks involving some 26,500 Internet users in 166 countries!

Operation Marcy is the most significant success against the international child pornography scene where Germany was the starting point of the investigations.

The investigations which took more than one year started with a report by the INHOPE hotline member from Germany - ECO's Internet Content Task

Force hotline - to the BKA in Germany in May 2002.

ECO sent this report to the German BKA after evaluating the report - received from the INHOPE member hotline from Spain (Protegeles) via the other INHOPE German hotline (FSM).

The mission of Inhope is to facilitate and co-ordinate the work of Internet hotlines in responding to illegal use and content on the Internet
