Our mission
The Anne Frank House is an independent organisation
entrusted with the care of the Secret Annex, the place
where Anne Frank was in hiding during World War II
and where she wrote her diary.
It brings her life story to the attention of people all over the world
to encourage them to reflect on the dangers of antisemitism, racism and discrimination
and the importance of freedom, equal rights and democracy.
Strategy - online and offline
Why start a virtual Anne Frank Museum?
• There is very little space to exhibit the museum collection or to house temporary exhibitions.
• The site demonstrates how the secret annex was furnished during the war.
• There are still many people who will never be able to visit the museum in Amsterdam.
• To stay in touch with our audience using one platform at www.annefrank.org.
Launch
• On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Anne Frank House as a museum.
• 28 April 2010 in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.
• The Secret Annex Online: Dutch, English. (German version february 2011.)
• www.annefrank.org: Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish and Italian.
Results
• The website immediately received substantial attention from national as well international media.
• Since its launch more than 1.800.000 people have visited www.annefrank.org.
• Since its launch more than 800.000 people have visited The Secret Annex Online (25.000 German version).
