CHABOT COLLEGE CISCO NETWORKING ACADEMY 1620 Lab Rules and Procedures Purpose The lab and these rules are intended to assure a useful and predictable learning environment for Academy students. Please take a personal interest in maintaining the quality of lab equipment, furniture, and conditions. Acceptable Use Lab facilities are provided for use only by students enrolled in the Cisco Networking Academy Program. Students shall use lab equipment as directed by their instructor. Students must limit their use of the equipment in room 1620 to activities relevant to Academy curriculum. Uses must conform to CLPCCD board policy #2311 & administrative rules & procedures #2311. These documents are posted on the class website and on the 1620 bulletin board. Prohibited Activities On "curriculum workstations" (labeled "cisco1", "cisco2", etc.) under no circumstances may students download or install software change configurations insert a floppy disk (Note however that instructors may direct students to perform software configuration changes or installations on practice lab computers labeled "lab1", "lab2", etc.) To assure a consistent learning environment, lab equipment is configured with certain system policies, security limitations, and passwords. Any attempt to circumvent or alter these limitations is strictly forbidden. The lab server does not provide general-purpose storage; files not pertaining to the Academy are prohibited. Students must not reveal passwords used to access Academy sites to anyone who is not enrolled in Academy courses and must not permit others to use their system accounts. No food or drink in 1620; no exceptions. No pencil erasers. No student laptops may be connected to the network. Students are not permitted to use room 1620 unless an instructor is present. Students may not remove any College property from room 1620. Violations of software copyright are expressly prohibited. Procedures Students should be prepared to work at any curriculum workstation in 1620; no student "owns" a spot. All student files should be stored in the student's account on the lab's file server. Periodically, the software image on curriculum workstations will be re-copied, resulting in erasure of all student files left on the local disk. Students are responsible to remember their passwords and maintain password security. E-mail Each Cisco Network Academy student is required to have an internet-accessible E-mail account, to provide this E-mail address to the instructor, and to check it regularly. Free web-based mail is available from Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. Students are not permitted to install, configure, or use a POP client on curriculum workstations. Ownership All information and files stored on the 1620 lab equipment are the property of Chabot College. The web-based Academy curriculum is the property of Cisco Systems, Inc.
