Justification:
Why is this position necessary?
FSA requires the following: "To manage a school’s aid programs effectively, the aid administrator
must be supported by an adequate number of professional and clerical personnel."
The clerical and administrative work necessary in the Financial Aid Office is substantial, and would be
much more manageable with full time rather than part time staffing. Responsibilities of this position
require the same dedicated concentration as is required for other roles and positions in the office.
What educational programs or institutional purposes does this position support? How does the request
relate specifically to your Program Review, the College’s Strategic Plan, and/or Accreditation Recommendations?
The increased responsibilities related to administration and reporting of financial aid programs have
increasingly made it impossible to manage without dedicated clerical support with budget, timesheets,
leave requests, calendaring, meeting minutes, etc. We look forward to filling the vacant part time
position and request it be made FT.
Where will the individual work? To whom will the person report? Are there any special equipment/facilities needs
to be considered?
Financial Aid Office
Financial Aid Director
No
What is the consequence of not funding this position?
Work that could be done by an experienced and trained classified Administrative Assistant will
continue to be done by the Director or other staff, whose time is needed in other areas of the office or
campus.
What alternative approaches have been considered in meeting the programmatic demands of this request?
Use of Student Assistant for directed tasks has helped the Director, but a student cannot do sustained
or independent work.
How will the campus community (students, staff, faculty, and community) be positively impacted by filling this
position?
Additional 10 hours per week will provide the Director and staff with clerical support that frees them to
concentrate on the responsibilities they were hired and trained to do. The goal is for the Director to
have that additional time to work with staff and programs to strategically improve and plan ahead.
What other personnel currently provide support to this program and these students?
Currently much of what the Administrative Assistant does/will do is done by the Director, with some
staff or student assistant support. When filled, Administrative Assistant provides 30 hours per week,
which was a great help.
