It is time to begin thinking about faculty members in your area, or in other areas, who you feel would be likely candidates. SENATORS Applied Technology And Business Mike Absher Arts and Humanities Diane Zuliani Health, Physical Education & Athletics Nancy Cowan Vacant Language Arts Francisco Zermeño Fe Baran Science And Mathematics Dave Fouquet Ming Ho Social Science Barbara Ogman Michael Thompson Counseling Rachel Aziminia Dara Greene Library Norman Buchwald Part-Time Anne Brichacek As you give thoughtful consideration to your nominee, think of colleagues who put students first, who continue to devise better ways to educate students, who freely give extra time to make a difference in their lives. Think of all the other professional contributions such faculty make to the college. Do not limit yourself to nominating only faculty who are teaching a full load, but also consider counselors, librarians and others who do as much for the students as those in the classroom. Also consider resubmitting any past nominees who were not selected in the past three years, for another chance at this honorable award. Your completed nominations are requested by Friday, April 13th, 2007, and may be left with Karen Silva in the President’s Office, or sent via interoffice mail to Chad Mark Glen, Box 1. We ask that you take the time to recognize someone for his or her consistently fine professional work. I am confident that anyone nominated would feel it an honor to have been considered. Additional copies of the application will be in a box in the Mail Room. It is an award given primarily for demonstrated career excellence in teaching. The award should not be viewed as a “teacher of the year” award, but as an opportunity to honor someone who has consistently dedicated his or her life to the enrichment of students and the teaching profession. Who is eligible? Any full-time faculty member who has been in the Chabot Las Positas Community College District for ten years or more. How is someone nominated for the award? By the faculty. A ballot will be distributed to each faculty member. Faculty members are asked to make individual nominations and may nominate anyone on campus, whom they think is a good candidate for the award. The nominating ballot is a two-page questionnaire (attached), requiring background information about the nominee; it is expected that nominations be made thoughtfully. Who makes the final selection? The committee is composed of three members; one is the previous Reed Buffington Award recipient, plus one faculty member from each campus, chosen by the respective senates. Committee members select the chair. A representative from each college is required. What does the committee look for? The selection criteria (on the opposite side of this page) form the basis for making the decision. In addition, candidates are asked to submit autobiographical statements of their professional lives, as well as names of colleagues who will be interviewed by the committee. When possible, former students will be asked to provide comments as well. When are the nominations due? Please complete this form and return it to Karen Silva in the President’s Office, or sent via interoffice mail to Chad Mark Glen, Box 1, by Friday, April 13th, 2007.
