Religious Literacy: Responses to Paris and San Bernadino
Rm. 804
Facilitated by Irene Plunkett
As more and more of the political discourse centers around or alludes to religion, which in turn shapes both
domestic and foreign policy, many Americans are at a distinct disadvantage. We often know relatively little
of the specifics of our own religion, or of the role religion has played historically in our own country and
educational system. We often know less about other religions. Such ignorance puts us at the mercy a media
focused on sound bites and audience share. Using Stephen Prothero's book Religious Literacy: What Every
American Needs to Know--And Doesn't, we will wade into the water.
