Web Interface for Catalyst Switch
The catalyst switch has a web interface you can be enable if you prefer to manage the switch through a
browser. In this lab you will explore the web interface and compare it with the console interface.
Setup:
1. Console into the switch and be sure that the HTTP option has been enabled.
2. Assign an IP address of 192.5.5.2 255.255.255.0 to the switch.
3. Remove all VLANS from the switch. The default VLAN is VLAN 1 which cannot be removed.
4. Connect your workstation to one of the ports on the switch and adjust your IP address accordingly.
Make the switch the default gateway and the DNS server address if requested.
5. Ping the switch to confirm connectivity.
6. Open Internet Explorer and go to Tools> Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings > and
unselect the Use a Proxy Server box.
7. In the address window of IE type in the IP address of the switch.
8. When prompted for a password type in class. Use guest as the username.
The Web Interface:
1. Describe the home page of the switch. What is displayed and what information is given?
2. What key is given for port status?
3. In your web browser click on the MODE button on the switch. UTL stands for Utilization. How
many ports light up?_________________
4. Click on MODE again. What information is displayed this time?__________________________
