Introductions
Members introduced themselves. An undergraduate student representative has
yet to be selected.
Committee
Mission/Guidelines for
Revisions
Members received a copy of the College Curriculum Committee Mission
Statement and Scope of Duties. Also brought to the committee’s attention
were the guidelines for curriculum revisions.
Faculty Asst Chair/Secy
Diane Docking volunteered to serve as assistant faculty chair and secretary for
the 2004-2005 academic year.
Catalog Deadlines
Deadlines for submission of materials for both the Undergraduate and
Graduate Catalogs were announced.
UCC Representative
It was announced a College of Business representative is needed to serve on
the Undergraduate Coordinating Council.
ACCY Revision
The committee approved changes to the introductory paragraph for the B.S. in
accountancy degree which appears in the Undergraduate Catalog. (See page 1
of 1)
College Mission
Statement
Upon recommendation from the 2003 AACSB visitation team, the College
Mission Statement has been revised. Discussion will continue at the next
meeting.
Business Majors/Minors
L. Marcellus brought to the committee’s attention strategies students have used
to try to obtain a business major by way of a business minor.
B.S. in Operations &
Information Mgmt
The Bachelor of Science in operations and information management program
was discussed.
Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 3:08 p.m.

The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14, at 2:00 p.m.

Department of Accountancy

The Department of Accountancy offers a B.S. degree which prepares its graduates for positions in
industry, public accounting, government, and nonprofit organizations. The program provides
students with the opportunity to study cost management and public or corporate, governmental
and not-for-profit, or internal auditing. Students are also provided with an opportunity to develop
their intellectual, interpersonal, and communication skills, and professional orientation.
Additionally, the educational experience enables students to develop the motivation and ability to
learn throughout their careers. Graduates are expected to be sufficiently competent in the areas of
cost management, financial accounting, accounting information systems, auditing, federal income
taxes, and related business areas to have the necessary foundation for a career, and for graduate
study. and not-for-profit organizations, and for graduate study. The program provides students
with a foundation in all major areas of the accounting discipline. Students are also provided with
an opportunity to develop their communication, technology, and team-building skills; apply their
knowledge to structured problems; use critical thinking skills to analyze ambiguous situations and
provide relevant business alternatives; and develop an understanding of ethical issues and
expectations for professional conduct in business. Graduates are expected to be sufficiently
competent in the areas of cost management, financial accounting, accounting information
systems, assurance services, federal income taxes, and related business areas to have the
necessary foundation for a career, and for graduate study.
Rationale: The learning outcomes of the program were revised. The introduction was revised to reflect these
changes.
