Action on Minutes
The minutes of the Fifth Meeting, dated October 25, 2011, were approved electronically
to meet catalog deadline. Note: The November 8 meeting of the College Curriculum
Committee was canceled.
UBUS 485/585
A revision to UBUS 485/585—the course utilized by the Experiential Learning Center—
was discussed which would allow the course to be repeated up to 6 semester hours. A
change to the prerequisite was also proposed. Further discussion will continue at the
next meeting.
Assessment Updates
A. Buhrow presented the Business Communication (written and oral) and Common
Business Knowledge assessment reports and recommendations from the A-Team. K.
Elliott attended the meeting to help answer questions from committee members
regarding the CBK report.
With regard to the Oral Communication report, the A-Team recommended the college:
1. Conduct future assessments of oral business communication in UBUS 311 in
odd year spring and fall semesters to achieve a more accurate proportion of
majors.
2. Track native versus transfer student performance.
3. Create a central place for new and existing student toolkit resources.
4. Set the target performance level at 75% of students meeting or exceeding
expectations.
The Curriculum Committee voted to accept the recommendations from the A-Team
with one change – to track native versus transfer student performance only if the
performance falls below the target level of 75% of students meeting or exceeding
expectations.
With regard to the Written Communication report, the A-Team recommended the
college:
1. Continue to monitor performance and consider MGMT 346 instructor
suggestions after more data is collected.
2. Track native versus transfer student performance.
3. Set the target performance level at 75% of students meeting or exceeding
expectations.
The Curriculum Committee voted to accept the recommendations from the A-team with
one change – to track native versus transfer student performance during the 2010-2011
cycle of assessment in MGMT 346 to determine the level of performance of native
versus transfer students in relationship to the target of 75% meeting or exceeding
expectations.
