Their spiritual home Religion is a life journey Children participate in celebrations during the rhythm of the year Belief in God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost The temple congregation = all the baptized children in the local congregation Mainly for rites of passage, big celebrations, and cultural events Part of the normal upbringing for cultural and ethical reasons Belief in God as Creator and Jesus as an ethical ideal Christianity as heritage and national glue 2002 Task of the church Aims? Main responsibility together with the family for the individual religious upbringing for children living in an informed multireligious society. Temple In past: School made use of church to celebrate shifts in its own rhythm: end of winter and summer semester for all pupils. Today? Celebrations of the Church’s own festivals as an offer to see religion in function. Children take part on different conditions: some celebrate, some are informed, some observe or they opt out from this. Church as place for visit to be informed – part of the ordinary educational program for all pupils. Teacher sets the rules. 2002 Synagogue In past: School and church operated within the same paradigm: Christian worldview Church had a mainly supplementary role
