Jeff Markert, CPA, is the partner in charge of the Chicago office public sector audit practice of KPMG, with more than 18 years of experience serving state and local governments and not-for-profit organizations. Jeff currently serves on the AICPA State and Local Government Expert Panel (Expert Panel). In this capacity, he devotes significant time to emerging issues related to governments, including working with GASB in the development and implementation of new standards. Jeff is also a member of the Illinois GFOA Technical Accounting and Review Committee. In this capacity, he works with the committees to respond to emerging issues of governments in Illinois, including technical inquiries and guidance. Jeff has also spent over two and a half years in KPMG’s Department of Professional Practice in New York devoting much of his time to office advisory and emerging issues related to governments, including working with GASB in the development and implementation of new standards. Jeff is a national instructor for KPMG, developing and providing training to partners and managers in the Public Sector practice. Jeff is a graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. He received a Certificate of Finance in Public Administration from DePaul University. Jeff is a member of the NIU Accountancy Advisory Council, Illinois CPA Society, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Government Finance Officers Association.
