Do you remember the DeLorean? If not, let us refresh your memory. It is the car, named after John DeLorean, that was immortalized as a time machine in the 1985 blockbuster film, Back to the Future . (See image at right.)
OK you remember. But what does this have to do with NIU’s MBA program? Well, last year, the One-year MBA cohort was asked to partner with the DeLorean Motor
Company and was charged with evaluating which strategic initiatives DeLorean should pursue. As you may know, the DeLorean
Motor Company fell on hard times. Despite its struggles, the brand remains strong. To this day, the company continues to receive partnership offers from a variety of industries and welcomes opportunities to lend the
DeLorean name to exploit new business opportunities.

From an early age, Kevin Cleary had an entrepreneurial spirit.
Upon graduating with his Accountancy degree and CPA in May
1976, he joined the audit staff of Grant Thornton. In 1981,
Kevin became the first auditor to transfer to the Management
Consulting Department – Business and Financial Planning
Group, an area that highlighted his entrepreneurial drive. While honing his accounting skills during the day, Kevin attended night school at the University of Chicago and received his MBA in 1983. Throughout the years,
Kevin continued to grow and develop his operational, strategic planning and corporate finance skills.
