Great Teams for Work and Play
As we begin another academic year in the College of
Business, we look forward to building relationships with
both new and familiar faces. As such, this issue of the
College of Business Alumni e-Newsletter focuses on
teamwork.
Teams are an integral part of life at the College of
Business – both for work and play. Read about how
teamwork enabled the Marketing Department to
connect current students with alumni and businesses
for internship opportunities, or how teamwork provided
fun and networking for participants of the Rockford Golf
Outing. These stories highlight just a few of the ways members of our community
come together in teams.
So what makes teams great? Not only can they elevate the performance of
individuals acting to achieve a collective outcome, but also they can fill us with a
sense of camaraderie and willingness to work together again. Great teams both excel
and satisfy our need to belong.

Teamwork is More Important Than Ever

Another academic year is set to begin and soon the Barsema Hall classrooms will
be filled with marketing students eager for the challenge of their first sales role play,
anticipating their first exam, and ready to put their skills to the test. The question is
will they have adequate opportunities? Thanks to teamwork between the College of
Business and our partners, the answer is an overwhelming yes!

Over the years, the Department of Marketing has forged strong connections with
alumni and businesses, enabling students to put their knowledge into action. Whether
the connections are made in the classroom, at school sponsored activities or out in
the field, the chance to collaborate with a professional can make all the difference.
As the Marketing Internship Coordinator, I have partnered with businesses to develop
the Marketing Internship website, on which more than 50 potential internships were
posted for marketing students.

Rockford Golf Outing
Teamwork was apparent on June 14th
when over 60 College of Business
alumni, friends and family members
came together to attend the 12th annual
NIU College of Business Rockford Club
Golf outing. This year was one of the
best events ever, in terms of attendance,
scholarship fund raising, weather and
networking. The Rockford Club thanks
all who made this event a wonderful and
successful team play.
