Minutes for Meeting of February 9, 2015
A meeting of ASCAP was held on Monday, February 9 at 3:00 p.m. in Admin 104. Committee members
present were: Gretchen Adams, Jim Barrick, Kelly Cukrowicz, Marliss Desens, Luis Ramirez, Matt Olson,
Jacob Mota, and David Roach. Presenters: Dr. Collopy (CMLL), Dr. McNamara (English), Dr. Lee
(Goesciences), Dr. Lumpkin (Health, Exercise, & Sport Sciences), Drs. Webb, Grzankowski and Velasco
(Philosophy), and Drs. Houk and Smithey (Sociology, Anthropology, & Social Work).
1.
Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend approval for the following proposals from the
Department of Classical and Modern Languages and Literatures:
 Add SPAN 5385, Seminar: Hispanic Linguistics
2.
Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend for approval the following proposals for the
Department of English:
 Multicultural Request for ENGL 3392, African American Literature.
 Multicultural Request for ENGL 3393, US Latina/o Literature.
 Multicultural Request for ENGL 3395, Native American Literature.
 Change ENGL 3393, US Latina/o Literature, change of course description for Multi-Cultural purposes.
The committee voted to table the following proposals pending further discussion for the Department of
English:
 Multicultural Request for ENGL 3389, The Short Story.
 Multicultural Request for ENGL 3394, Asian American Literature.

Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend approval for the following proposals from the
Department of Geosciences:
 Change ATMO 5328, Synoptic Mesoscale Dynamics, Change title and course description
 Add GEOG 4324, Geography of Health.
 Change GEOG 4335, Field Methods Physical Geography, Change course number, title, course
description and contact hours.
 Add GEOG 5335, Field Seminar in Physical Geography.
 Change GEOG 5304, Electron Microscopy, Change prefix, number, title and course description.
 Delete BIOL 6408.

The committee voted to recommend approval for the following proposals from the Department of Health,
Exercise, & Sport Sciences:
 Delete ESS 5306, Biomechanics.
 Delete ESS 5310, Biomechanics of Muscular Systems.
 Delete ESS 5314, Methods of Biomechanics Research.
 Delete PFW 1116, Tai Chi.
 Delete PFW 1120, Aikido.
 Delete PFW 1121, Jui Jitsu.
 Delete PFW 1122, Karate.
 Delete PFW 1124, Self Defense.
 Delete PFW 1126, Tae Kwon Do.
 Delete PFW 1155, Special Topics in Fitness.
 Change PFW 1112, Diet and Exercise, change course description.

Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend approval for the following proposals from the
Department of Philosophy:
 Add PHIL 2330, Science and Society.
The committee voted to table the following proposals pending further discussion with the Department of
Philosophy:
 Add PHIL 1320, Football Ethics.

The committee voted to recommend approval for the following proposal from the Department of Political
Science:
 Add POLS 4001, Congressional Internship.

The committee voted to recommend approval for the following proposals from the Department of
Sociology, Anthropology, & Social Work:
 Change ANTH 5305, Method and Theory in Cultural Anthropology, Change title and description.
 Delete SOC 4395, Senior Seminar.
 Create SW 6040, Individual Study.
 Create SW 6355, Social Work Practice with Groups.
 Create SW 6374, Social Work Practice with Veterans & Military Families.
 Request to Add ANTH 3343 to A&S General Education Requirement for Language, Philosophy &
Culture.
 Delete SOC 2331, Sociology of Marriage.

Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend approval for the following proposals from
the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, & Social Work:
 Change SOC 3331, Sexuality & Family life, change description and name.
 Add SW 6356, Practice: Communities and Organizations.
 Add SW 6372, Issues in Social Work Supervision and Administration.
 Add SW 6373, Life Altering Illness and Social Work Practice.
The committee voted to table the following proposal pending further discussion from the Department of
Sociology, Anthropology, & Social Work:
 Multicultural Request for SOC 3337, Inequality in America.
The committee voted the following recommendations regarding the SW General Degree Requirements:
 Recommended inclusion of SW 2301 in A&S GRD.
 Table the proposal for SW 3311, 3312 and 3331 pending further information and discussion.
The committee voted to table the following proposal pending submission of the proper materials:
 Multicultural Request for SOC 3337, Inequality in America.
