Retirement Reception
A reception that brought more
than 150 friends, guests and
agricultural industry leaders from
across the city and state was held
June 29 at the university’s Merket
Alumni Center. Burns, himself a
former Texas Tech provost, came
out of retirement in 2007 to serve
as interim dean of CASNR. In 2008,
he was named dean of the college.

SLIDESHOW: Plant & Soil Sciences Building expansion under review at Texas Tech
CASNR leaders are proposing a new 21,500 sq. ft., two-floor expansion with basement and a
renovation of the existing Plant and Soil Sciences Building. The building expansion includes new office
space, a conference/seminar room, cold/storage, and laboratories. The new facility will be built in
the spirit of Tech’s Spanish Renaissance architecture, and the adjacent Goddard building will have an
upgraded building facade that will be in the same architectural character. Learn More >>
CASNR officials announce strategic hiring of noted food science
researcher
Texas Tech continued its quest toward Tier One status with the strategic hiring of a
respected food science researcher who will help grow the university’s research
capabilities. The newly added faculty member is Kendra Nightingale, now an associate
professor with the university’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences. more »

project
A Texas Panhandle-High Plains conservation project has been awarded a federal grant
from the United States Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation
