2014 CASNR E-NEWSLETTER VOLUME 9, ISSUE 4 IN CASE YOU MISSED IT Groundbreaking ceremony for new Bayer PSS building expansion set for April 29 Officials with Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources announced today that groundbreaking ceremonies for its new Bayer Plant Science Building Expansion will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Apr. 29) at 2709 15th St. in Lubbock. Tech’s Board of Regents approved a $13 million project last December. more » ON THE SCENE In Profile: Texas Tech honors AFS’s Max Miller for 50 years of solid service When Max Miller came from Brownfield to Texas Tech in 1955 to begin his undergraduate studies, the only traffic light between there and Lubbock was at 19th and University. These days there’s a lot more stop lights, but nothing in the interim has slowed Miller’s affection for his university. Indeed, it’s become the focal point of his career. more » AG COUNCIL 360 Officials at Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources announced today (Apr. 7) the creation of two new administrative research-related positions. The Associate Dean for Research positions will be filled by 50 percent appointments of two current CASNR faculty members. David Weindorf, a nationally recognized expert in land-use planning and a Fulbright Scholar, currently serves as the B.L. Allen Endowed Professor of Pedology in Tech’s Department of Plant and Soil Science. He will step into his new post on July 1. Meanwhile, Michael Ballou, a nutritional biologist and an associate professor with Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences, takes on his new duties on June 1. more » Top students, faculty highlight CASNR Honors Banquet at Merket Center Outstanding students, staff and faculty from across Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources were honored Friday (Apr. 25) at its annual Honors Banquet at the Merket Alumni Center in Lubbock.
