CASNR’s cutting-edge judging teams prepare to defend national championships
While athletic teams have been training for weeks for the onset of the fall sports season, two Texas
Tech University teams have been preparing just as hard to defend their national championship titles.
The Meat Judging Team and the Livestock Judging Team, both in the College of Agricultural Sciences
and Natural Resources, won the country’s top titles in their fields last year. more »

West
Texas Tech continues its pursuit of Association of American University (AAU)-like
research university status with the strategic hiring of a respected forage researcher.
The newly added faculty member is Charles “Chuck” West, who will serve as the
Thornton Distinguished Professor of Forages with the university’s Department of Plant

Food-borne illnesses drop, but more work needed on salmonella
pathogens
The incidence of food-borne illness in the United States dropped by nearly a quarter
since the late 1990s, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC). Researchers found that the overall incidence of six common
food-borne pathogens was 23 percent lower in 2010 than in the years between 1996
and 1998. more »

Department
Aaron Jennings, an experienced judging team coach, has been named an instructor in
Texas Tech University’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences, according to officials
with the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. He officially stepped
into his new teaching post on Sept 1.
Rodeo Update: Lady Raiders win with stout Langdon performance in
Portales
Braced by a strong showing in barrel racing, Texas Tech’s Rodeo Team launched their
fall season on a high note, with the women’s team winning first place overall this
weekend (Sept. 22-23) at the Eastern New Mexico University Rodeo in Portales. The
women overpowered several teams from the National Collegiate Rodeo Association’s
Southwest Region to take the top spot. more »
